Why True Tone doesn’t work on iPhone

“The True Tone feature on iPhone is responsible for adjusting the white balance on your screen. In winter and when you go outdoors, the screen glows in cooler shades, while in summer and indoors, the lighting becomes warmer. When True Tone doesn’t work on iPhone, colour grading is disrupted and your eyes feel uncomfortable on the phone. To reduce eye strain, iPhone users need to find the problem and fix it.

Causes of failure

White balance imbalance on an iPhone screen is always due to a screen fault. This is usually due to damage to the screen of the app and poor quality repairs. You can’t just replace a broken iPhone screen with a new one. The information from the old part must be transferred to the new part before the device can be used again.

The reason TrueTon doesn’t work on iPhone could be a hasty screen replacement. Full synchronisation is required. The white transfer data is stored in the colour correction settings.

Another reason is the installation of an unlicensed version. A smartphone is only good at understanding “generic” parts – those that come from the developer’s factories. Cheap analogues fitted to replace a faulty screen are the cause of white imbalance due to TrueTon failure.

If the screen sensor is damaged, the white tint will also not be corrected when the lighting changes. The element needs to be replaced, but taking into account the characteristics listed above.

How to solve the problem?

To restore the true tone, follow these steps:

  1. Find out how the screen works. Any damage is the cause of its eventual failure.
  2. Take original spare parts.
  3. Install a new screen with data transfer. Information on white correlation settings is stored in Display and brightness.
  4. Check the transmission of information and the performance of your smartphone in different modes.

If the repair is successful, the screen will have cool tones in cloudy weather and vice versa.

True Tone Testing

After troubleshooting, you must check that True Tone is working successfully. To check, you must do the following:

  • Go to settings”;
  • select the “Display and brightness” line;
  • find the True Tone section ;
  • investigate the number of active modes. There should be three of them, and one of them is called the True Tone.

If there are only 2 operating modes, this means that TruTon is disabled. To activate it, you need to move the slider in the corresponding direction.

On iPhone 7 and older, you need to look for Night Shift instead of True Tone. It is responsible for automatically adjusting the lighting when the day or the external environment changes. To activate the function, you must also move the slider and check that there is a tick in the “Manual setting” mode.
